We often get questions about check-in times for flights.  These are usually provided by the airlines when you make your booking or are available online via your carrying airlines website.  Please refer to the following link on our website which has links to all airlines operating in the Cook Islands.

Air Rarotonga Flights

Air Rarotonga require you to check in at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time set out in your receipt and itinerary for domestic flights and at least 2 hours prior for international flights.

Air New Zealand Flights

We highly recommend obtaining the Air New Zealand mobile app.  This is a useful tool when travelling provided you have access to online data, it will advise of changes in your flight, allow you to make online changes, add bags and advise when check in is open online, when boarding is called, etc.  As a frequent traveller with Air New Zealand this tool is very useful.

You can also check in online with Air New Zealand 24 hours prior to your international departure time.  This speeds up check in, when you arrive at the airport you only need to present your passport and drop your bags at the "Online Check In" counter (which is the far right counter at the terminal).  Also rather than needing to be at the airport 90 minutes prior to departure (2 hours for USA departures), your bag drop time is reduced to 60 minutes prior to departure (75 minutes for USA).

Note, some visa restrictions may apply for some passport holders which will affect the available online check in options with Air New Zealand - if this applies to you, boarding passes will not be available and you will need to check in at the earlier times - in these situations we recommend arriving as early as possible at check in.  Remember check in is open at the airport 3 hours before departure and 4 hours before for flights to USA.

Virgin Australia Flights

Virgin Australia check in counters are at the same location as Air Rarotonga check in and are open 3 hours prior to departure.  It is recommended you check in prior to 90 minutes before your departure time.

Virgin Australia also have a mobile app and online check in may be available depending on your booking.

Jetstar Flights

Jetstar check in counters are also at the same location as Air Rarotonga check in and are open 3 hours prior to departure.  It is recommended you check in prior to 90 minutes before your departure time.

Jetstar also have a mobile app and online check in, however online check in is not available from Rarotonga to New Zealand or Australia at this time.

Air Tahiti Flights

Air Tahiti does not have a mobile app or online check in options available, check in must be completed at the airport.
